Steven W. Marker was born in Mamaroneck, New York on March 16, 1959. He spent his teen in Nebraska. At the age of 6 his parents bought him a drums, but at 12 he shifted instruments and changed over the guitar. He passed the high-school at Mamaroneck. Online degrees weren't an option back then, so he refined his instruction at Madison, and just there he met Butch during the recording of a film. Butch proposed him to enter in the Spooner band and he instantly accepted.
He is a co-owner of Smart Studios along with Butch Vig. Steve was also in the dark and edgy band named First Person. After the demise of First Person, Steve began playing for Dennis Navatchal. Steve was the person who did almost all of the soundwork for Spooner from 1978 to 1986. Steve also did all of the sound work for Firetown from 1987 to 1989. After that, he along with Butch and Duke played together in Rectal Drip. Then of course he helped Butch and Duke with the unnamed band project, later named Garbage.
In Garbage in addiction to the guitar he engages of bass guitar, effects and loop.
